Tween Time @ Colorado Children's Hospital
Our One Voice 4 Change team recently went to Colorado Children's Hospital to work with the amazing staff that works in the T(w)een Zone. The healing power of music, art, and science was just what the Dr. ordered. Dr. Jennifer Campbell-Smith and Emmy award songwriter David Williams worked with children on animation and science discovery. Dr. Campbell-Smith's club, Birds Across Borders, is a globally minded group of high school students who regularly collaborate with others t

It's All About RelationshipS
Felicity and Gregg recently visited PathLight International in Belmopan and Belize City, Belize. We expected diversity, amazing students, dedicated teachers, and a country rich in culture. It's so much more than preparing for a career. The mentorships we witnessed were a fully immersive investments in studen

Escúchanos! (listen to us)
One Voice 4 Change wants to make a difference for those who need a voice. Who needs to be heard? Who has something to say? Answer: The students! Students and teachers in Chacala met with Dr. Jennifer Campbell-Smith in March 2019 via THE SYNK to work on a global project called Birds Across Borders. Much to the amazement of all, Monse's contribution to Birds Across Borders was a painting of a crow. The teachers told me that they did not even know she painted. One can easi

Arts & Sciences
Diverse and meaningful data, art, music, and culture have taken a leading role in the vision of student-driven learning between STEM School Highlands Ranch and el Colegio Patria in Las Varas, Nayarit, Mexico. Students from el Colegio Patria presented what they did for "Culture Week" at their school. In addition to fashion, art and other activities, dance was an important element in the presentation. Telesecundaria to STEM
Inspired by Mexican culture, collaborations with rural Mexico, Rotary Clubs, and a few drawings and ideas from Martin, BK and Jerry, STEM students are now working with a professional architect from Colorado. The Smile of Success
When smiling students find you on a beach in the afternoon and start singing songs from the school's presentation of "A Bird's Eye," you know it was a success and that a lasting impression has been made on all. The goal was never a performance. The goal was to have fun while learning; tapping into the students' curiosity, imagination and creativity. When a student is having fun, solving a problem and actively learning, anything is possible.

¿Qué? ¿Qué? ¿Cómo? ¿Quién?
Teachers from Las Varas and Chacala Nayarit Mexico came together to share strategies that bring infinite potential for learning to their students. After some dancing and singing, we divided into four groups and went to four stations to see items. For each item, we discussed: What? What? How? Who? ¿Qué? ¿Qué? ¿Cómo? ¿Quién? What do you see? “A Teacher’s Eye” ¿Qué ves? "el ojo de un maestro" What can you learn from it? ¿Qué se puede aprender de ella? Science Phys

Taking Flight
Just like the wind that lifts the birds of Chacala into the air, the students and teachers have taken flight with their collaboration on the musical drama: A Bird's Eye. Students from el Jardin participated in a walking tour to identify birds. Each student chose a bird that they want to include in the story. Primaria students drew pictures of birds and took notes. Telesecondaria students used online resources to collect scientific data and connect our projects to geography

"Let's Just Do It!"
There are people who talk about changing the world and there are people who do it. Simi Basu always says "Let's Just Do It!" Simi Basu does it. On June 6, 2018 Simi taught a lesson from THE SYNK with Aymee (el Cogio Patria teacher.) Their challenge was to teach math through Excel using the creative applications within that program. The next step is to connect to a volunteer from Lockheed Martin who will help them build advanced skills. These advanced skills in Excel an

The SYNK
Miracles after Miracles! Richard Clarke's guitar class came in the SYNK and discovered what it is like to go from being a guitar student at STEM to seeing themselves as guitar teachers in the world. We set up ZOOM meetings in THE SYNK and the music room, imagining that we were linked to Mexican guitar students and Hisiquio (Maestro in El Colegio Patria). Student's took ownership of not only their own learning, more importantly they now see themselves in a global context chang
